Ilon Rincon Portas is a physician, medical educator, and dedicated think partner working to improve healthcare access and education in underserved communities across the United States. A board member at Immigration Equality, the nation’s leading LGBTQ and HIV-positive immigrant rights organization, Ilon is deeply committed to advocacy at the intersection of medicine, equity, and human rights. Originally from Venezuela, Ilon built a career as a medical doctor before seeking asylum in the U.S. due to the dangers they faced as a queer person. Now based in New York City, they work to transform medical education, ensuring future healthcare professionals are equipped to serve diverse populations. During the pandemic, Ilon volunteered at a COVID-19 testing site, providing critical support to immigrant communities. They became a U.S. citizen in 2018 and continue to lead initiatives that advance healthcare justice and inclusivity.
