Mission, Vision & Values
Learn about why Immigration Equality exists and what we’re fighting for.
Mission
To promote justice and equality for LGBTQ and HIV-positive immigrants and families through direct legal services, policy advocacy, and impact litigation.
Vision
We envision a future where every LGBTQ immigrant can build a life anchored in freedom, justice, and dignity. Where the people of this nation celebrate the innovative spirit and remarkable contributions of immigrants and refugees. Where LGBTQ immigrants are treated with justice, dignity, and respect by our immigration system. Where every person – regardless of their sexual orientation, gender identity, or HIV status – is empowered to freely express their true self and to love whom they choose. And where safety, opportunity, and the hope for a better future are an everyday reality for all of us.
Values
Justice and Equality – We strive for dignity and fair treatment for everyone – in law, policy and practice. When someone assails the rights of LGBTQ and HIV-positive immigrants, we fight to overcome the injustice. We are committed to uplifting the oppressed, and to using the law to liberate those who have experienced discrimination or persecution because of their sexual orientation, gender identity, or HIV status.
Quality of Service – We are committed to providing excellent legal counsel to, and highly effective advocacy for, the people we serve. We respect and center the needs of our clients while using all available resources to pursue the best possible outcomes for them. We are passionate, zealous representatives of LGBTQ and HIV-positive people.
Freedom and Empowerment – We work to ensure that every individual may live proudly and openly as their true self in a safe and welcoming nation. We also seek to enable immigrants to build a better future for themselves and for their families. We are agents of change, and we work every day to create progressive law and policies that support and empower LGBTQ and HIV-positive people
