Request for Proposals: Prospect Researcher for Immigration Equality

Introduction: Immigration Equality (IE) is a national legal services nonprofit organization whose mission is to promote justice and equality for LGBTQ and HIV-positive immigrants and families through direct legal services, policy advocacy, and impact litigation. Since our founding, Immigration Equality has provided free legal services for thousands of LGBTQ and HIV-positive immigrants, while simultaneously fighting for and winning giant victories in the halls of Congress, in the arena of public opinion, and in the federal courts. Today, we represent hundreds of asylum seekers and refugees fleeing persecution based on their sexual orientation, gender identity, or HIV status.

Project Overview: We are seeking a skilled prospect researcher, either an individual or a firm, to assist us in identifying, discovering, and mapping relationships with new potential donors in key markets. The objective of this engagement is to expand our donor base by targeting prospects who are not currently in our database, but who have a relational link to an existing board member or current donor and an expressed interest in organizations with similar missions. The successful consultant will provide comprehensive information including contact details and relationship mapping to facilitate the scheduling of discovery meetings by our frontline development staff.

Scope of Work: The consultant will be expected to work with the Immigration Equality leadership team and development staff to:

  1. Conduct identification, qualification, and relationship mapping on prospective donors in three specified key markets (these will be major metropolitan areas in the United States of America).
  1. Identify new potential donors not currently in our database, with at least one relational link to an existing board member, current funder, or major donor (lists will be provided).
  1. Provide contact information for each prospect including verified phone number, email, and address.
  1. Deliver qualified, mapped prospects to facilitate at least 10-15 discovery meetings per market during the engagement period.
  1. Collaborate with our team to review and advance qualified prospects, evaluate and improve overall prospecting systems.

Deliverables:

  1. Comprehensive donor prospects profiles of 30-40 newly identified prospects in each of the 3 markets (90-120 total completed donor prospect profiles), that meet or exceed prospect research report best practices as defined by the Association of Professional Researchers for Advancement (APRA). This includes:
  1. Verified contact information including phone number, email, and address
  1. Charitable giving history, with special focus on giving to mission-aligned organizations
  1. Relevant wealth indicators such as real estate, company ownership, board seats on publicly traded businesses, etc.
  1. Relationship mapping demonstrating the connection to existing board members or major donors.
  1. Provide enough qualified, mapped prospects, as stated above, for IE to secure a minimum of 10-15 discovery meetings in each market during the engagement period.

Timeline: The timeline for the project is estimated to be approximately six months, with the following milestones:

  1. Month 1: Initial consultation, planning, research, and information sharing. Determination of 3 key markets. Presentation of detailed project timeline to IE leadership and/or development team.
  1. Months 2-5: Donor identification, qualification, and relationship mapping. Review of qualified, mapped prospects with IE leadership and/or development team
