Our Collective Power: A Message from Our Executive Director on the Election Results

I know that many of you are shaken by the election results and what this means for you and your loved ones. With the return of a Trump administration, attacks on LGBTQ people and immigrants will intensify. While this moment is difficult, it’s also a reminder of how crucial our work at Immigration Equality is.

Immigration Equality remains unwavering in our commitment to support LGBTQ and HIV-positive immigrants and refugees. Under Trump’s previous administration, we saw policies that sought to undermine refugee protections, block asylum claims, and target vulnerable communities. We overcame those policies then, and we are ready to do it again. While the path ahead will be challenging, we know that change comes from people like you — people who care, people who refuse to give up on the promise of a fair and equitable society. Our work has always been vital, and going forward, we will all need to work together to fight for justice.

In the coming weeks, there is a lot we can accomplish before the change of government. We know that we can count on you to help us squeeze every bit of good will out of the Biden administration, and we will be in touch with ways for you to take action. And, when Trump inevitably takes office again, we will do everything in our collective power to ensure that the United States remains a beacon of hope for immigrants and refugees.

In solidarity,

Aaron C. Morris
Executive Director, Immigration Equality
