Fall 2024 Part-Time Undergraduate Legal Intern

Immigration Equality’s New York City office is offering a fall internship position for undergraduate students. Immigration Equality is a national organization fighting for equal immigration rights for the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and HIV-positive community. We provide direct legal services to LGBTQ and HIV-positive immigrants and fight for administrative and legislative changes in U.S. immigration law.

Legal Interns work closely with our legal team to provide legal services to LGBTQ and HIV-positive immigrants and to manage a nationwide pro bono program. Among other tasks, legal interns may be asked to assist members of the legal team in direct representation matters, assist with intake interviews, research issues about U.S. immigration law and policy, and partake in administrative assignments and projects.

Immigration Equality is an affirmative action employer: immigrants, people of color, and transgender individuals are strongly encouraged to apply. French, Russian, or Spanish-language fluency preferred. Immigration Equality fosters a progressive and professional LGBTQ-friendly work space.

Although a start date is negotiable, ideally, interns should be able to work for 10-12 weeks (September through November), 8-12 hours per week. Please indicate the specific dates and times you are available in your cover letter.

Internship will be remote, and you will need to have access to your own computer and telephone. We welcome student interns from all backgrounds and experiences. We will work with interns who have funding or fellowships, or who are seeking school credit, to meet the requirements of their programs.

To apply for an internship, please send a chronological resume and a compelling cover letter to Tejo Keenan (tkeenan@immigrationequality.org)
