Together with our supporters, Immigration Equality has made an indelible impact on the lives of LGBTQ and HIV-positive asylum seekers over the past 30 years. Some successes include:

  • winning asylum for over 2,000 LGBTQ and HIV-positive individuals.
  • pushing Congress to overturn the decades-old ban on immigration for people living with HIV, alongside coalition partners. 
  • blocking a Trump administration proposal that would have made it virtually impossible for all refugees to secure asylum.  
  • changing a U.S. State Department policy that discriminated against same-sex couples and their families.
