Albert R. Chen

After working as a law clerk at the Federal Court of Canada, Albert R. Chen moved to New York City as an LGBT+ immigrant in 2009. Albert began representing asylum seekers at Immigration Equality as a legal fellow from 2009 to 2010 and continued to devote his time to representing clients on a pro bono basis while working at various corporate law firms, including Dechert LLP and Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison LLP. After several years working at Brookfield Asset Management, Albert is currently an in-house attorney at The Blackstone Group. In 2016, Albert co-chaired Immigration Equality’s Safe Haven Awards.

Albert went to McMaster University in Canada for his undergraduate education, received an MA from Columbia University in political science where he published a paper on China’s persecution of HIV/AIDS activists, and has an LLB from the McGill University Faculty of Law.
