Katie Hawkes (she/her) splits her time between a full-time role as the Head of People at a tech startup, part-time career coaching, and teaching business ethics as an adjunct professor at Arizona State University. She holds an MBA in Organizational Leadership from Santa Clara University and is currently a part-time Psychology PhD student at the University of Arizona, with a dissertation focusing on employee wellness and workplace psychological safety. Her career has included a variety of HR and education roles at companies including Twitter, Google, and various tech startups, where she was also frequently involved in LGBTQ+ employee groups as well as corporate social and environmental responsibility initiatives. After nearly a decade in Silicon Valley and San Francisco, Katie moved home to Phoenix, AZ, to be closer to family and embrace a (somewhat) slower pace of life. She is an avid animal advocate and rescuer, and her personal zoo currently includes three dogs and two cats. Due to this, she spends most of her free time vacuuming the house. When that’s not happening, she enjoys hanging out with her girlfriend and family, reading, traveling, and thrifting more Halloween decor than her home might feasibly hold.
