Deportation can be a death sentence for LGBT immigrants

Gay Indian Couple Jailed . . . in America

Immigration Equality is representing two gay men from India who have been detained in immigration jail in El Paso, Texas for six months. This week India’s high court reinstated criminal penalties for being gay, making it even more dangerous for the couple to return. Read more

Immigration Equality Names Interim Executive Director And Legal Director

Immigration Equality, the national organization representing lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender (LGBT) and HIV-positive immigrants and their families, announced a series of internal promotions as the organization’s new leadership team takes shape. Immigration Equality’s board of directors has named Deputy Director Trina Olson as the organization’s Interim Executive Director. Aaron C. Morris, who has led Immigration Equality’s acclaimed asylum program, will become Legal Director. Read more

Rachel B. Tiven Announces Plan to Step Down as Executive Director of Immigration Equality & Action Fund

After eight years at the helm of the nation’s pre-eminent organization representing lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) immigrants and their families, Rachel B. Tiven announced today that she will step down as the executive director of Immigration Equality and Immigration Equality Action Fund, effective December 31st. The organizations’ boards of directors will conduct a search for a new executive director. Read more
