Iowa Raid Analysis
This blog has not tackled sufficiently the crisis of immigration raids and the harm these raids do to communities, families, and individuals across the U.S. We’ll be bringing you more information about these raids and their many impacts. The largest raid in U.s. history recently occurred in a small town in Postville, Iowa. The raid has gotten plenty of media attention, but this latest analysis by Professor Aldana is a thoughtful perspective on the way the raids are being prosecuted, how those caught in the raids are jammed through the legal system in violation of constitutional guarantees, and the interplay between local law enforcement, ICE, and Congressional failures is noteworthy. It’s an eye-opening read for sure- take a look.

One of the stories that we did at Radio Iowa this week indicated that 90% of the Latino students in the high school at Postville were not there on Tuesday. Of course, the raid took place on Monday. And on Tuesday morning fully one-third of the students in kindergarten through eighth grade in Postville were not in attendance. So, those people have either been, you know, their family life has been disrupted by this raid or many of the folks who were living in town have decided to just vanish.
