Iron justice

Filed under: Uncategorized — adamf @ 12:47 pm

this blog has written in the past about the prison nation that the U.S. has become.  the U.S. ranks first among all countries with the largest prison population, and as of Dec. 31, 2007 the incarcerated population stood at a staggering 2,258,983.  One in every one-hundred people living in the U.S. are locked up, and for black men, the number is one in nine.  There is an obvious problem in this country, but for most, out of sight, out of mind.
.

I digress.  Recently, the Federal Bureau of Prisons reports that the three highest offenses for incarceration today are:

  • Drug offenses
  • Weapons, Explosives, Arson
  • Immigration

Fair or unfair?  Does anyone care?

  1. Hopefully people do care. These are terrible statistics which show that we have major issues in this country we must address. One big problem is the fact that companies profit off imprisonment. Thanks for this wonderful blog and the work you do. You exemplify the fact that someone does care.
