Re: S. 1328 (H.R. 2221), The Uniting American Families Act
Dear Senator (Congressman) [insert Member's last name]
I write to ask you to cosponsor the Uniting American Families Act (UAFA). The UAFA seeks to fulfill the pledge of family unification under current U.S. immigration policy by adding the term “permanent partner” where the word “spouse” currently appears in the Immigration and Nationality Act. This would allow gay and lesbian citizens and permanent residents the ability to sponsor their same-sex partner for immigration benefits without challenging the Defense of Marriage Act.
[insert personal story here]
In addition to helping my partner and I remain together the UAFA would deter fraud and not cost the federal government a penny. The UAFA remains the only hope for me and my partner to be together and I hope that you will cosponsor this bill. Thank you for your time in this important matter and should you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.
Sincerely,
[your name]
