Action alert: The DREAM Act
Senators Richard Durbin (D-IL), Chuck Hagel (R-NE), and Richard Lugar (R-IN) will introduce the DREAM Act as an amendment to H.R. 1585, the Department of Defense authorization bill. The word is out, and already immigration restrictionists are lighting up the switchboards of their members of Congress. We need your help so that immigrant kids can realize their dreams and go to college! We need your help NOW to keep the DREAM Act from suffering the same fate as comprehensive immigration reform.
Timing:
- The amendment may be offered and voted on as soon as Wednesday, but may not come up until next week.
- However, we need your calls beginning NOW, before Senators get the idea (again) that they only hear from anti-immigrant constituents, and that they should play it safe and vote against the amendment.
Who to Call:
- Your two Senators. You can find their numbers here:
Look, the immigration lobby needs a win and the DREAM Act is the best chance for this win. A win for the immigration coalition means that we still have power on the Hill and can muster a positive vote for a pro-immigration measure. A win on the DREAM Act, aside from bringing relief to many immigrant youths and students, would help the cause of all immigration related events including the UAFA. CALL YOUR SENATORS TODAY!
The DREAM Act would provide a 6-year path to permanent residence and eventual citizenship for individuals brought to the

Adam, it might be helpful to put up a short summary of the Dream Act highlighting its merits.

jeez what a good idea, sorry I didn’t include that before. You mean you don’t trust me blindly??

Gosh I wish there was a way to easily mail these posts — especially the action alerts — to others. Sending a link through the web browser does funky things and doesn’t exactly work they way I want it to.

Keith-
What is it about providing an opportunity to the children of undocumented immigrants that so bothers you? Would it be better to have a permanently uneducated underclass of children in the U.S.?

I support the DREAM ACT. These children/young adults were unwillingly forced into this situation. I only hope that other immigration lobby groups are as supportive of the LGBT community as we are for them. Do they receive Action Alerts for the UAFA?

ok, so im a little confused as to why keith wants to fly the mexican flag over the whitehouse, unless it is just mexican children who would benefit…?
an act that begins to look at the humane aspect of immigration, that treats people as people with a past, a story. and not just numbers, faceless statistics under the “illegals” umbrella, is vital to the passage of the UAFA. we are struggling with this cruel discrimination as adults, can any of us imagine being faced with leaving the “land of plenty” our parents brought us to, possibly to somewhere the culture is totally alien…
i think some of the people against acts like this, need to remember that america is essentially a country built by and for immigrants.
i also agree with don on his comments in another thread about karma, do something good and it comes back…
