What a start to the year! The first thing I want to say in my new role as Interim Executive Director is, “thank you!” None of our work is possible without ardent supporters like you.
In the final hours of 2013, we surpassed our latest challenge when 406 of you helped us win $20,000 from an anonymous donor! And I’m happy to say that we’re already putting it to good use: Natalie, a native Russian speaker who’s originally from St. Petersburg, Russia, joins our team on Monday.
While Immigration Equality has been directly helping LGBT asylum seekers for years, some of our clients are in more danger than ever before. Natalie will be here to answer the phone and help courageous LGBT Russians who have been forced to flee.
Because of your support, last year marked the first time ever that our families won green cards. And we’re not letting up. With LGBT athletes competing in Russia next month at the Olympics, and Congress turning its attention back to immigration reform, 2014 is full of opportunity for LGBT immigrants and their families. I couldn’t be more excited to lead Immigration Equality at this critical time.
